Prepared to Work from Home?

a simple but effective eLearning interaction

Overview

• I designed this eLearning interaction as a concept project to increase my comfortable level with adding multiple layers and states to slides and creating light boxes in Articulate Storyline.

• I was inspired by browsing other portfolio sites to find 10 essential items to create a productive and serene home office.

• I wasn’t happy with the size and layout options of the light boxes preloaded into Storyline so I created my own.

• I’m learning that lightboxes are a great way to provide learners with additional information without having to leave the slide and I wanted to show a clean and simple way they could be used.

• I darkened the base slide and centered the lightbox on top of the previous base layer. This way Learners can choose the material they want to explore in more detail and view it at their own pace.

Process

• After being forced to work from home very quickly in 2020, I realized that I liked exploring the challenge of staying motivated and productive at home, however, I wasn’t totally aware of all the tools needed to keep it going, especially after some professionals started returning to work.

• I referenced Luxe Digital’s 27 Work From Home Essentials To Boost Your Productivity article as it provided great in-depth information about each of the items showcased, plus many additional items.

• After planning the information I wanted to include, I found vector images on Freepik, which I edited to create a similar color palette. I then used Articulate Storyline to create the interaction.

Final Product

• I decided to theme it using work from home must haves because it’s a relevant topic and gives the learner some ideas to add to their content knowledge.

• There are obviously additional things needed when working from home but this simple interaction takes the learner through some very clear essentials.
